“Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.” – MLK, Jr.
With all the items going on in the world sometimes I wish I did more. We look the other way because it’s in a different city, a government agency without a face far away in D.C., someone else’s fight for marriage equality or an injustice in a different country. We all get occupied by our own daily lives and I suppose that is fine but I miss the passion I used to have about these things. Facebook and the internet puts them in your face almost too often and you become so saturated that it competes in the very bottom of your mind along side the bomb-bardment of advertisements. I think some travel to some unique places is in order for me in 2014 because I feel some need to make more of a difference. I used to create fund raisers, did community service on a regular basis, Boy Scouts, etc but time has been such a tough commodity lately that I feel that I have become centered around my own self created world and have only worked on fixing those problems or that projects. Anyway… MLK day always fires me up because it wasn’t that long ago and I hope that if I was around that I would have tried to make a difference… but we still don’t have equal rights for everyone and I, just like the rest of us, remain blissfully ignorant almost on purpose.
