Welcome to ColoredLion.com’s photo of the day!
I love to take photos of just about everything and photography has taken me just about everywhere. I tend to only edit 1-5% of the photos I take and even fewer get shared. Sharing on time is also tough so I decided to create a page where I can post photos daily – some are super old and some are new but all are a brief moment in my life that I deeply enjoyed. Come back often as photos are posted daily!

This photo was shot during an engagement photo shoot. We wanted to get a few photos of their kid with them (see the Engagement Photos HERE) but he was so damn cute that I had to get some of him by himself. Sometimes I wish I would get this excited about seeing a photographer balancing a rock on his head.
Here is the piano that was the Photo of the Day on the 18th moments before lighting it on fire. Bri Bagwell is playing the upright piano during her Whiskey music video.
This is an older photo taken with my old gear… a Canon 20D and a Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens which sounds all nice and pretty but you can buy that setup for about $200-400 right now. I’ve always said that photos are not made by how nice of equipment you have, instead they are made by putting yourself in the situation. To get this photo I had to the harsh surroundings of the Pedernales river and had to be on a boat with a bunch of wake-boarders… sometimes you have to make sacrifices to get the shot.
Everyone in Austin gets their photo take in front of the famous ‘I Love You So Much’ wall at Jo’s Coffee. Ingrid & Gerardo were about to leave each other and wanted pictures together. Gerardo was about to go overseas and they knew they would miss each other deeply. So we bounced around Austin taking unique and fun photos. I wanted to do something different than every other photo of this famous wall so I took a hard angle and Gerardo and Ingrid did the rest. See all the photos HERE.
This is one of my favorite photos that I have captured and was a non-paying non-project shoot. A few of us (hair and makeup, stylist, model and me) to just have fun and see what we can come up with. The result was great and I really need to do this again when I have that time thing. View the rest of the photos HERE.
This photo was taken in the Boston area with a great couple, Matt and Leanne. I like to have a little fun when shooting weddings as you can see HERE.
Sarah Jane is such a wonderful person to work with and is an amazing artist. View more photos here: http://www.coloredlion.com/2011/03/16/sarah-jane-band-photoshoot/
Oh, Ghostland. You have a special place in my heart. If you haven’t been to a Ghostland Observatory show you are missing out on a very cool and fun event. I say event because the laser light show in itself is worth the sticker price let alone the great music. I always love shooting their shows.
I took this pic a few years ago during SXSW. I was shooting a band called Surprise Me Mr. Davis and they had John Popper (Blues Traveler) and they had a crazy amount of energy. I like this photo of their drummer, Andrew Barr, because he looks just like my oldest brother when he was younger. View the photos from the show HERE.
Tonight some friends of mine and I will be going to Bri Bagwell‘s show so this is a perfect photo of the day. This was taken at Rebecca Creek Winery, which is around College Station. This picture really captures the close relationship Bri and the Banned have and they are always a blast to be around.
This was a fun shoot with Charles Fuller a natural bodybuilder and a friend. MRI contacted me wanting some photos of Charles within a few days so I had my work cut out for me. We did the shoot in one of the back rooms of Golds Gym and the idea was to have a clean white background for which we simply just put up white sheets. I had William McNeil (a fellow photographer) help with the lighting and couldn’t have produced the photos without him.
So I just completed the amazing drive on the PCH (hwy 1) from LA to SF and I wanted to wake up really early to get pictures of the golden gate bridge but ended up being a late night. I left my hotel at around 6:30am (flight was at 8:30) and sped around in my crappy rental car to get this photo and then rush to the airport just to miss my flight… I’m sure it’s not the last time I will miss a flight for a photo and, to me, it was totally worth it.
This was a fun night. Atlas Genius opened for Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and they brought down the house. It was a small venue and Macklemore had a different backup singer for every song and a killer trumpet player. This photo was taken during ‘Can’t Hold Us’ and Macklemore started swinging from the rafters… it was super dark in the middle of the crowd but thankfully someone took a photo with a flash in front of him so it lighted my photo uniquely.
Sometimes you just get lucky. As a photographer you get to hang out with couples that are crazy in love with each other and just being around them creates wonderful art. It was raining out so we sought shelter in the trees.
This is a fun photo that reminds me of growing up and playing at the pool. I did some crazy editing and the kid getting pushed in is a little out of focus but I still love it.
Oh Chi-town – you are a badass city and I love you for it (besides how expensive you are!) Here is a photo taken with Canon’s EOSm camera with the kit 22mm f/2.0 lens – edited with Photoshop and Topaz Adjust plug-in… such a great feeling to be able to take photos like this with such a small camera.
